A Mistake Meant For Perfection

I wrote this poem as an explanation. It was more for my mom than for me, but I had to explain it to myself first-understand the question she posed, which is in the poem, so that I could see the reasoning of the situation. Basically, the message is that in all things in life, there is a lesson if we are willing to pay attention and learn from it-even, and especially from the most painful seasons we go through. This short poem was one of a few I wrote on that subject.

I failed.

Looking back...

Upon closer examination of the past,

I now see the truth of the matter.

“I misread the signs.

I misinterpreted the dream,” I said.

“So how do you know that your current

interpretation is right?” she asked me.

I thought for a moment.

“Because,” I said,

“it was meant to be...

I was supposed to misinterpret.”

For in hindsight,

though I formerly kicked myself

in frustration,

Yet I now see the original vision

with new eyes...

Eyes I gained from

A mistake meant for perfection.

For my vision would still be cloudy...

pupils opaque with cataracts...

vision veiled...

But by means of my sin,

He ripped the veil.

For the ripples from one pebble,

caused me to seek Him,

and to search for the truth

to set me free.

This mistake meant for perfection

came full circle

to my completion in Him at last.
