Three Gifts Stolen By Depression

Updated on July 9, 2013

Three Gifts

Now, in order to get the full picture and see how Satan’s god complex relates to depression, we have to travel forward in time and back into the garden. Here we see the first Adam with Eve. We also see several of God’s patterns being established. There’s so much meat here; so much to explore and expound upon within that subject range, but for now I will try to narrow my focus solely into the object of Satan’s attack.

There were three things, three gifts of God that Satan attacked in the garden that are relevant to the subject of depression. Each of these could be broken down, but for the moment and the purpose here, I will stick to the overall picture. The first thing God gave mankind was dominion or power, and this was given to both sexes.

Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Gen 1:27 So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

The second thing God established with mankind, was relationship. This was done by giving Adam a purpose and establishing trust.

Gen 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Gen 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

The third thing God gave mankind, unbeknownst to both Adam and Eve, was immortality or abundant life. He gave it to them without time factored in and attached. Death was not an issue, and was unheard of in the beginning. God gave them everlasting life, and subsequently they gave it away because of a lack of faith and understanding.

Same Old Methodology

These three, dominion, relationship and life are the gifts of God that Satan attacked in the beginning. But here, we see the enemy’s mission.

Jhn 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.

What was Satan’s method of attack? Once again, it’s a three-fold issue, so that speaks of a direct assault against God by attacking His creation. Satan attacks both the first and the last Adam in the same way, utilizing the exact same methodology. It is this same methodology that he continues to use against us to this day. The only difference is, it’s dressed up and made more desirable by technology, and the dictates of society per the latest fads and innovations.

Due to things seldom seen, and a lack of understanding in man, Satan easily breaks the braid established by God, and replaces it with a yoke that come via this three-fold attack:

  1. Lust of the eyes
  2. Lust of the flesh
  3. Pride of life

The blessing in this is that once we get a grip on these tools of his and how this attack is meted out, we can take steps to repair the damage and be restored because his attack methodology never changes. It will also allow us to be more prepared and more on guard against it, because it is only slightly modified per economic or situational circumstance. The method is always the same all the time. To understand this, we need to go back to the garden. For the 1st part of this series, click here.
